There are some Beard Companies that play it safe with their scents using basic essential oils like Peppermint or Bergamot. Then there is Arthur J Hawke! His oils really go beyond the normal with fragrances like Bourbon Biscuits, Jam Doughnut and Rhubarb and Custard. Here’s my Arthur J Hawke Beard Oil Review – Cherry Cola.
A bit about Arthur J Hawke
Josh founded Arthur J Hawke in 2016 and he has been pushing the boundaries of Beard Oil scents ever since. With some of the most out there scents on the market, this is no ordinary Beard company!
Josh is not a fan of tobacco or Woodsy scents! He loves to experiment and be creative with the fragrances. You can really see his passion for different smells with the oils and balms he makes.
As well as the Oils and balms, AJH sell Beard Shampoo, Boars Bristle Brush, combs and hair styling products. (I wish I had hair to try those!). The gift sets are fantastic value and the perfect present for the beard in your life.
Anyway, let’s move on to my five factors and find out if Cherry Cola is as good as it sounds.
Scent
The scent does exactly what it says on the bottle. It gives you a real Cherry Cola fragrance, so much so that if you were wearing a blindfold, you might mistake it for the drink!! Yes, it smells that good.
Once you put the oil into your beard you get the full hit of Cherry with the sweet scent of Cola following. However, it does remind me more of Coca Cola than Pepsi (Which is my preferred choice!!). It smells good enough to drink and as you add it to your whiskers you can almost feel the tingly fizzing sensation! (Disclaimer: It isn’t fizzy)
WARNING!! Do not drink this oil!
Staying Power
This is where Cherry Cola lets itself down. I’m a big fan of an oil that lasts into the afternoon and this doesn’t. Unfortunately the scent only lasts about 2/3 hours. I use about 10-12 drops due to the size and thickness of my beard but that didn’t make it last any longer. (I had to reduce that after a couple of days)
Even when I was doing very little during the day I still needed to top up the oil after a few hours. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it is good to top up now and then. When I’m at work or out for the day, I really don’t want to carry a bottle of oil with me to top my beard up!
Feel
It ticks all the boxes when it comes to making your beard feel soft and nourished. I like to leave my beard product free for a couple of days before trying something new and this didn’t let me down. After a couple of days the beard started to feel bouncier and softer.
The oil didn’t sink in to the beard as well as some others do but I do use a lot of oil. I went from 10-12 drops to about 8 and it felt much better. I could tell there was Argan Oil in there as even my wiry greys felt soft and smooth!
Skin
The oil left a residue on the skin underneath my beard which made it feel slightly greasy. Again, it did get better when I started using less oil.
There are a lot of carrier oils used, such as, Jojoba, Castor and Sweet Almond, but it didn’t ruin the effect it had on the skin. It’s not suitable for people with nut allergies though so make sure you check with your Dr before using this oil.
Value for Money
It is great value for money with prices starting from £10.99. It is a well put together oil and for 30ml it’s worth every penny. You can get a 10ml bottle as well but the value is in the 30ml.
Arthur J Hawke do plenty of deals as well so you can always find something you want at a great price. Check out their website www.arthurjhawke.co.uk for the latest offers or head over to amazon where you can also purchase the oils.
Conclusion
It is the smell that makes this oil for me. It is up there as one of my top fragrances this year. The price of the oils is fantastic but I just wish the scent would last longer.
Overall, it is a great oil and I recommend you give them a try as soon as you can. I’m going for the Jaffa Cake next!!
