Avast ye! Welcome back to another beard oil review. That’s right, it’s Friday and today I have another Beard Tings oil under the microscope! So, batten down the hatches, grab a cask of rum and enjoy the Beard Tings Caribbean Cut Throat Review.
Who are Beard Tings?
I won’t insult your intelligence in actually asking you this. If you’re a regular reader of my reviews then you will definitely know! In case you don’t, check out my review of Smoked Amber or visit beardtings.co.uk. You can also follow them on instagram. Before I start the review, I am an affiliate for Beard Tings and work closely with Andy. For that reason I won’t be scoring this oil or any future Beard Tings products.
Right, let’s set sail and find that treasure!
Are Beard Tings CPSR Approved?
Absolutely. Andy championed this when he was a reviewer and he damn well made sure he had this in place before selling! I have seen the evidence of these reports so you can be sure that Beard Tings has done the right thing! Check out my blog What is a CPSR and why is it important to see why all companies need this.
Time to move into the Beard Tings Caribbean Cut Throat Review.
Scent
When you unscrew the lid off this bottle you are met with the smell of coconut oil. Not the smell you get when you bite into a Bounty, but a mellow sweet smell that has you dreaming of tropical islands and palm trees. The Caribbean rum follows quickly and you really do start to get the essence of this oils fragrance.
It isn’t overpowering though, more like a gentle wave, lapping at the sea shore bringing ripples of fine rum through the air. It settled into my beard nicely and although I didn’t quite feel like Captain Jack Sparrow, I did feel a sense of the Caribbean. I love it when the smell of an oil makes takes me places I have been before or somewhere I dream of going.
After a short while you start to really notice the warm, sweet scent of sandalwood and you realise it’s been there all along. Sandalwood is usually more at home with the more floral fragrances but it works so well with the rum and coconut. It delivers a more exotic smell that combines and brings the whole scent profile together.
Durability
I like my oils to last at least 7 hours and Caribbean Cut Throat does not disappoint. It stays with you for a good 8 hours and you can even smell traces of it after that. The initial punch of the rum and coconut does die down after about 4 hours but stays with you, whispering sweet nothings into your nasal passages.
As you know, I like to put the oils through their paces and I certainly did that with this one. Fresh sea air, workouts, walks in the wind and rain. The lot and it stood up to everything. It did fade quicker with some of the weather I encountered but it still managed to give off it’s delightful smell throughout.
Benefits
As with all of his oils, Andy uses the same Carriers to keep the benefits consistent throughout his range. They work so well together and left my beard feeling soft and very healthy. My skin was also feeling soft and well nourished with the Grape seed oil in particular working into my skin.
Let’s have a look at the carrier Oils.
Grape Seed
Grape seed oil is rich in linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid. Essential fatty acids are the building blocks of healthy cells. They hydrate, moisturize, and soften skin. It absorbs into your beard and skin quickly as it is very thin and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy.
The oil promotes healthy hair growth which doesn’t mean it will make your hair grow quicker! However, it will make your hair stronger and more healthy. Just like castor oil, it helps to reduce beardruff which can be a problem.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, a perennial native to the North American deserts. The oil of the jojoba seed is extracted by cold-pressing, a process that helps maintain the rich nutritional value of the oil. The oil has plenty of antioxidants including vitamins A and E.
These help to stop or reduce itchiness of the skin. This is particularly helpful in the early stages of beard growth. It is also great for your beard hair as the oil molecules are similar to sebum. It can also help to make your hair stronger which is very helpful when you brush or comb your beard a lot.
Argan Oil
Argan oil is known to be beneficial to your skin and can help to moisturise your skin and hair. Hailing from the Argan Tree, which is endemic to Morocco, it is also used as a dip for bread etc. It is often used in face creams due to its potential to reduce wrinkles.
Sweet Almond
This is another oil that is great for both your skin and hair. Almond oil can help soothe and improve acne, especially good for when you first start growing a beard. It also treats dry skin which you can get under your beard if you don’t use the right products. There is plenty of vitamin E in this oil which is good for protecting and even repairing your skin from sun damage. For your hair, there is plenty of B-7 or Biotin which is great for keeping your whiskers strong and healthy.
Originality
You don’t get much more original than the Beard Tings packaging. They stand out like a lighthouse in the mist. Bright, bold and bolshy. Some might say, like the owner of Beard Tings himself!! It actually does represent his personality and you just know he saw these and went, that’s me!
The Gold just shines through and attracts you to it straight away, like a magpie that sees a shiny object and you just have to pick it up. The mix of scents is also different as well and completely captures the Caribbean feel. This is something that you would instantly want to try, simply because it shines at you. Drawing you in as a siren would draw in the sailors back in the time of pirates.
Value for Money
Priced at £12.99, this is up there with the best oils you can buy. It is definitely a premium product, you can tell that by the packaging. The quality of the oil itself is fantastic and they comfortably lie in my top 3 oils.
This is definitely good value for money and you’ll be hard pushed to get anything this good for less.
Conclusion
Beard Tings has taken the UK beard market by storm with their bold marketing strategies and in your face packaging. But, they have backed it up with a high quality product. The scent is amazing and it really sets you off dreaming of lying on a paradise island, sipping rum long into the night.
Andy has done a great job with this oil and it stands up to his flagship scent Vanilla Killa and in my opinion, surpasses it. You can use this everyday and not get bored of it. There aren’t many oils that actually match to the name they are given but this one has nailed it.
