Lakeland Beard Care Summer Night Review

It’s Friday which means it’s review day and I’ve got a brand that’s been around for a while! Get out your sunglasses and flip flops for the Lakeland Beard Care Summer Night Review!

Who are Lakeland Beard Care?

Lakeland Beard Care was formed by Rich in 2018 but he had been dabbling with products a long time before. After making oils for himself and his friends, Rich made the leap to selling his products. It wasn’t as easy as he thought as his first attempt never got going. But, not one to give up he tried again. Taking inspiration from the Lake District, Lakeland Beard Care was born.

Are Lakeland Beard Care CPSR approved?

Yes they are! Rich is following the letter of the law with his company and has all of his CPSR’s in place. He proudly announces it on his website and obviously knows the importance of making sure his products are legal. If you want to know why it’s needed then check out What is a CPSR and why is it important?

Right, let’s get in to the Lakeland Beard Care Summer Night Review.

Scent

I didn’t know what to expect from the scent when I chose the Summer Night oil. This was the first time I had tried anything with Grapefruit in before so was really intrigued to find out how it smelt. I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it to my beard. The Grapefruit was sharp and impactful without being over bearing. A powerful fragrance but it doesn’t blow you away like some and certainly less than I thought it would.

That is not to say it was unpleasant. It brought a freshness that you don’t always get from beard products and it made it more enjoyable. I didn’t feel any memories flood through but it almost gave me the feeling of summers to come. I can’t wait until summer!

The Patchouli and Cardamom came through giving it a bit of spice as well as bringing some sweetness to the sharp Grapefruit. It wasn’t as woodsy as you might have thought with those two oils being mixed in and that was a good thing. It kept the sharp fragrance of Grapefruit mellow and quite delightful.

Durability

The oil gave a reasonably good account of itself lasting about 5 hours, which is about average. The original blast lasted about 2 hours and mellowed out to a gentler smell which carried on for another 3. It kept going through the trials I like to put them through but always diminished around the same time. It could last a bit longer but it isn’t a total disappointment.

Benefits

Lakeland have gone with 3 carrier oils and have used the usual suspects. Nothing wrong with that as they all work well together and do what they say on the tin. The overall effect on my beard was pleasing and made it feel soft and nourished. The oil itself is a thin to medium viscosity and absorbs well into the hair and skin. There’s no residue left on the mane and that makes it so much better when stroking the beard! (I do this to give a perception of being wise!)

Let’s have a look at the carrier oils.

Sweet Almond

This is another oil that is great for both your skin and hair. Almond oil can help soothe and improve acne, especially good for when you first start growing a beard. It also treats dry skin which you can get under your beard if you don’t use the right products. There is plenty of vitamin E in this oil which is good for protecting and even repairing your skin from sun damage. For your hair, there is plenty of B-7 or Biotin which is great for keeping your whiskers strong and healthy.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, a perennial native to the North American deserts. The oil of the jojoba seed is extracted by cold-pressing, a process that helps maintain the rich nutritional value of the oil. The oil has plenty of antioxidants including vitamins A and E.

These help to stop or reduce itchiness of the skin. This is particularly helpful in the early stages of beard growth. It is also great for your beard hair as the oil molecules are similar to sebum. It can also help to make your hair stronger which is very helpful when you brush or comb your beard a lot.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is known to be beneficial to your skin and can help to moisturise your skin and hair. Hailing from the Argan Tree, which is endemic to Morocco, it is also used as a dip for bread etc. It is often used in face creams due to its potential to reduce wrinkles.

Originality

I like the idea behind the branding with the bright labels. A different colour for each scent makes them all stand out as individuals. The outline of a beard on the label with the brand name in it doesn’t feel new but the overall effect is good. It’s not the most original branding but the bright colours add a sense of good times, fun and a character that not all brands can pull off.

The carrier blend of the product is basic and widely used, although they do work very well, I would like to see a bit more adventure with this. The fragrance, made up of essential oils is fresh and something I haven’t encountered before which is a major plus.

Value for Money

The oils themselves are priced at £11.99 for 30ml which is a great price. You get a good quality product with a fresh scent and it is very reasonable. The balm is also £11.99 and they have the combo priced at a fantastic £19.99. It is a mid range price for a product that is teetering on the edge of being premium. A bit more adventurous with the carrier blend and this would definitely be ranked up there.

Conclusion

I like this oil. The scent is fresh and lively, albeit with average staying power and it does have you dreaming of summer evenings with a cold beer in your hand, sitting in the garden. A carrier blend that doesn’t inspire but does do the job it needs to do and a great price point means that Lakeland have something that you should try.

The labelling is well presented and has almost all of the necessary information. You have the address, the ingredients and the batch number. The only thing I can see missing is any potential allergens. Rich has brought a different aspect to beard oils with Summer Night and if the other oils are as good as this one then I will definitely buy more from Lakeland!
