Onesociety Beard Butter Review

Beard Butter. What even is that? Well It’s not Beard Oil or Beard Balm but it is! Confused? I’ll explain more in my Onesociety Beard Butter Review!

So, what is Beard Butter?

Beard Butter contains many of the same ingredients as both the oil and the balms but the consistency is different. In fact, it is more buttery! Shea and Cocoa Butters are a big part of most butters and they can contain small amounts of beeswax or none at all. Other often used ingredients are Jojoba, Coconut and Argon oils.

Butter is more of a conditioner and helps to moisturise your beard. It does provide a very light hold which helps to tame the beard similar to a balm. It would only really help with smaller beards in that regard though. The butter didn’t hold my whiskers in place!! A balm is designed to hold your beard in place with more wax included.

Beard butter is ideal to use overnight to help nourish your mane while you sleep. You can then wash it out in the morning before applying your oil and balm.

Onesociety Beard Butter

I was lucky enough to get the Outlaws Beard Butter from Corie at Onesociety. You might remember my Onesociety Beard Oil Review of the same scent. He wanted me to try it out and see what I thought.

First off, I love the smell. It is exactly the same as the oil so you know what to expect. The Sweet Rum and Lime fragrance just got better the more I used it!

Their butter is made up of Shea, Cocoa and Mango butter. There is also Carnuba Wax, Coconut, Argon and Jojoba Oil in the mix along with the essential oils that give the butter it’s distinctive smell.

Did I like it?

I had never used a Beard Butter before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Obviously, I have seen videos and read reviews on butters though and I was expecting it to be a creamy whipped consistency. It wasn’t. It was actually a lot more like a balm to look at than a butter.

You couldn’t just scoop it up with a finger, you needed to use your nail to get it out of the jar. Once you had it in your hand it was a different story. Rubbing it between the palms softened it immediately and it almost turned into a liquid. It was really easy to apply and it didn’t make the beard feel greasy at all. My hands needed a good wash afterwards but then that’s the same with oils and balms!

I used the butter for a week as that gives you enough time to really try it out and form a proper opinion. Only using a product once doesn’t let you experience everything it has to offer. But, did I like it? Well, that would be a yes!!

Rating the butter

Having not used a butter before I wasn’t sure how I was going to score the butter so I’m going with Scent, Feel and Value For Money.

SCENT – The butter smells exactly the same as the oil and I like it a lot. The Rum and Lime combo is refreshing and lasts all day. Well, 7-9 hours which is damn good!!

FEEL – After using this for a week I have to say that my beard was feeling soft and healthy. I used the butter on its own without any other products and I was happy with the result. I’m not sure if I prefer butter to oil or balm but I would use it again!

VALUE FOR MONEY – Priced at £11.85 for 50ml of the stuff, this is great value. You don’t need a lot in your beard if you have a small mane under 2 inches. This will last you for a long time. I used it for a week and I still have plenty left and it will probably last for the rest of this year.

Conclusion

Using Beard Butter has made me realise that there is more to life than just oil. I won’t stop using oils as there are some awesome independent brands out there, like Onesociety, who create amazing scents and use top quality ingredients. If you haven’t discovered Beard Butter yet then give this a try. Onesociety has 7 different scents in their butter range so there will be something for everyone!
