Runesilk – Beard Oil Review

Runesilk have been developing beard products since late 2018. They were probably better known for their range of sunglasses in the early stages of their growth. They have launched the Runesilk Revolution and their latest offering is the Elements range. Here is my Runesilk – Beard Oil Review.

What did I get?

As I was doing some research to find a beard oil to test I came across Runesilk. The most amazing thing was they were offering free samples. Now, there’s an offer that just can’t be refused!!

The hardest part was choosing a scent to try. Obviously there are 4 elements, Air, Water, Earth and Fire. I went straight for the fire as it was the first one to jump out at me.

When I received the oil and balm in the post it came with an Elements guide, a Fire ingredients and blurb card and a personal message from the founder of Runesilk, Daniel. A nice touch.

Testing the beard oil.

Before I apply beard oil I like to either wash or soak my beard to get moisture in it. I don’t wash my beard every day and today was a water only day.

Once I had patted my beard down to get rid of the excess water, it was time to apply the oil. The scent hits your nostrils straight away, singeing the hairs in my nose! Okay, a slight exaggeration, but the scent was extremely powerful.

So I applied the oil, brushed it in and allowed it to settle in. Let’s get straight into my 5 key factors to break down the Runesilk – beard oil review.

Scent.

Elements Fire! The final Element in our series. It’s sweet, smokey, spicy, woody. Think log fire, log cabin, but with a sweetness that takes the edge off of all that burnt wood. Our most complex blend or Cinnamon, Juniper Berry, Vetiver, Pettigrain and Lavender. This is an excerpt from their website.

The Cinnamon exploded and really overpowered the other fragrances from the second I opened the bottle. It wasn’t unpleasant, just very, very strong. It definitely had plenty of heat and lived up to the woody, log fire claim.

As strong as the scent was, would it last for long or fade away into the distance?

Staying Power.

I put the oil on at about 9am and I am writing this at 10:30pm. The smell of cinnamon and fiery fragrance was still there after more than 12 hours! I kid you not.

Most oils generally fade and then disappear during the day but not Fire! This bad boy has clung to my beard the whole time. I’ve been out for two long walks, through the woods and on the beach. I’ve cooked dinner, cleaned bathrooms and dusted furniture. Through all of that the scent is still lingering!

I have used many oils since I started growing my beard and have never had one last this long. The scent isn’t my favourite but if you’re looking for something that remains with you for a long time, this is it.

Feel.

With it being a non beard wash day and only rinsing the beard with water, it gave me the opportunity to see how well the oil worked.

As always I rubbed the oil into my hands and fingers and ran them through the beard. Covering the whole beard and taking the oil right down to the skin and hair follicles.

After brushing the oil into the beard and letting it settle I could feel a difference in my beard. I could tell that some moisture had been trapped and the hair felt soft and smooth. Some oils can make your beard feel a bit greasy but this wasn’t one of them.

Skin.

With it being such a powerful scent I did worry that it might have an adverse affect on my skin. I have sensitive skin and it can be affected when a fragrance is too strong.

It didn’t cause any issues though and the skin underneath my beard feels soft but slightly greasy. As if the skin has absorbed any excess oil and left a layer on top. It could be due to the fact that I used more oil than I needed. I usually put 5/6 drops into my beard, but in hindsight Fire only needed 3.

Value For Money.

This is the area that I find to be the most opinionated. That is because everyone has a different perspective on what is value for money!

This is a premium beard oil and at £12.95* for 50ml, it is priced accordingly. (*Prices correct at the time of writing. For the most up to date price please visit www.runesilk.com.)

You can actually get the oil for cheaper if you use the subscription service. This would mean you get your oil delivered when you need it and you can save 10% on the price! That is great value.

Conclusion.

This is a high quality beard oil, no doubt about it and it makes your beard feel great whilst locking in essential moisture. My beard feels hydrated, smooth and soft.

The one downside for me personally is the overpowering scent. I like the smell of Cinnamon but this was extreme! It’s not to my taste but that’s not to say it won’t be enjoyed by many others. The plus to this is that it lasts all day long!

I really think Runesilk have a great brand here and I am looking forward to trying the other scents in the near future. Watch this space.
