You probably use Instagram, right? I should hope so and also hope you follow me on Insta too!! If you do use Instagram you have probably seen some before and after picture sales posts. You know, where the beard is a mess in one picture but after using product X you will have a perfect beard. That’s the before and after con!
Why do people do this?
Quite simply it is to get you to part with your money. Unfortunately there are a lot of gullible people out there, especially when it comes to believing what they see on the internet.
You have probably seen the advertisements of a guy with a big belly in one picture and he’s slimmer in the next. NEWS FLASH! This is sometimes fake. Admittedly not all the time as you do get genuine weight loss programmes. But other times it isn’t real.
The guy is breathing out making his belly look bigger in the first picture. He then breathes in and the picture is normally taken from a different angle. Now he’s slim. It’s a miracle. As I said before there are genuine cases where it’s real.
But why do it with beards?
I’m not entirely sure if I’m honest. It seems that people will believe that a beard oil will magically change your beard from messy to awesome in a flash!
It won’t. Beard oil is great, in fact, it is essential! But there is no single product that will magically alter the appearance of your beard like that. It takes a bit of time and effort. You have to wash, oil, brush, balm and comb. It’s not the shampoo that does it, It’s you.
A lot of people think that growing and having a beard is lazy but the truth is different. It actually takes patience and care to have a beard.
So I don’t need to use a beard shampoo or oil?
Oh yes, you still need to use these products. They will make your beard feel and look healthier. They won’t make your beard straight from fluffed out though. That is called brushing and grooming. If you wake up with your beard all fluffy and wild, and it does happen, then you need to get it sorted.
My routine is to either wash it with beard shampoo or wet it. I dry it with a towel first and then use a hairdryer and round brush to straighten the beard. Once that is done I will apply oil and use a Boars Bristle Brush to spread the oil through my beard.
Then I will comb it with a decent beard comb (Kent combs are the best and you can buy them from amazon.). Once that is done I then apply balm to keep it in place and give it one last comb through to ensure it is styled how I want. This can take anything from 5-20 minutes.
Who can you trust?
That’s the hard part isn’t it. You want to believe that all these magic weight loss programmes work. You want to believe that your beard will look amazing after just using one product. But, who can you trust.
There aren’t many advertisements like that where I would trust what they are saying. Look to independent reviewers like myself or Bearded Bear Reviews on Instagram. We tend to have no or very little allegiance to the brands we review.
I am an ambassador for The Beard Struggle and One Society but if I don’t like one of their products I will say so. I don’t have any affiliation with Hinterlands Beard Oil, Beard Tings, Brisk or Arthur J Hawke so if I say it’s good, it’s good!!
Conclusion
At the end of the day you need to make the decision on who you can believe and who you think is having you on. All I’m saying is be careful. There are a lot of people who will try to convince you that their product will perform miracles. Do your research. Check out reviews, especially from other websites and not just from their page!
That’s all for today, don’t forget to check out my Arthur J Hawke Beard Oil Review – Cherry Cola.
