What’s the problem with beards?

Hmm, this is a question that I am asking because some people don’t like beards! I know, crazy right. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinion but sometimes people go a little too far with how they express them. So, what’s the problem with beards?

An opinion shared.

Sometimes it is better not to share your opinion with other people. Especially if it may cause offence. However, as an adult I am capable of taking someones’ opinion on board. As long as they can take mine as well!

There are people out there that have a real problem with beards. Why? Well, some of them have an irrational fear of beards Yep, it’s a thing! It’s called pogonophobia.

I don’t get it either but it’s there! Some people hate the feel of beards, the look of them or think they are dirty. I guess that is up to them but they probably don’t realise how much goes into caring for a beard.

Growing a beard is lazy!

This is a common misconception of people that either hate beards or don’t fully understand why we grow them. “You don’t shave because you’re lazy!” Actually, it is easier to shave than grow a beard!

First of all there’s the early stages of growth, the itchy, I can’t do this phase. Then there’s the ‘it’s growing but it’s patchy’ phase. Finally, getting to a length and style that you like.

During all of this there is the care that goes into maintaining a beard. Washing the beard, not with regular hair shampoo but with specially formulated shampoo to help keep your face fuzz clean.

You then apply oil and/or balm to keep the moisture in your beard and to keep it in the style you want. Not forgetting the brushing, combing, drying etc.

Shaving is easy!

The beard lovers

You can also get people who love beards, I mean really love them! They are called pogonophiles. Now, I can understand these people!

As I said before, everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you don’t like my beard that’s fine. I didn’t grow it for you!

What about work?

There are some companies that will want you to conform to certain rules which means you can’t have a beard. This I don’t agree with unless you are enlisting in one of the armed forces or something similiar.

There is obviously not a lot you can do when it comes to your job though. We need to earn money and jobs are getting a lot harder to come by these days. Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice. Sometimes you don’t!

There are probably a ton of facts to argue the case against beards but I haven’t got time to look them all up and get them down on paper. In fact, I do have time but this would be a waste of it. I like having a beard and don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

So, what’s the problem with beards? Nothing, but that’s only my opinion!!

Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to check out my last post Burnt, but not burnt out.

Take care and keep growing brothers
