Why Do You Grow A Beard?

This is a question I have been asked many times. Why Do You Grow A Beard? Oh boy, I have so many answers to this and not all of them are polite!

I think the problem is that beards are still not accepted in some places. Whether it be working environments or social circles. Beards are sometimes seen as laziness! Any bearded brothers out there will know that this is not the case!

Why Do You Grow A Beard?

My answer varies depending on the person and the way the question is asked. For instance if someone asks me in a slightly pompous, disgusted tone then my usual reply is “Because I have balls” or “Because I decided to be a man”. Not that being clean-shaven makes you less of a man by the way! It’s the attitude I am responding to.

The thing I don’t understand is why the question needs to be asked at all. Surely, as individuals we have the right to decide whether we have a beard or not. I believe in choice and the freedom to do as I choose. After all it is my face! So, why do I grow a beard? Because I can!

Doesn’t It Itch?

Yep, get this a lot too. And yes, when you start growing a beard it can be itchy. It’s why we use beard wash and beard oil! Stops the itching and keeps the beard clean and fresh.

Once your beard grows beyond the stubble stage and getting into full on whiskers then the itching generally stops anyway. I know people who only grow a bit of stubble and then complain that it itches so they shave it off. No commitment or patience there!

It takes a lot of patience to grow a beard and if you don’t have that then a beard isn’t for you. There are loads of excuses to not grow a beard, itchiness is one. Another is

My Wife Doesn’t Like Beards

I get it, the wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/partner doesn’t like beards. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who don’t like beards. Just like there are a lot of people who don’t like spiders! They are still out there though. Get used to it!

My partner doesn’t like beards. Have I got a beard? Absolutely. After all it isn’t her face and I like having a beard. It’s about compromise and understanding each others needs. Would I shave my beard if I was threatened with divorce? No, if you don’t like me for who I am and what I believe in then I don’t need that.

Beards Are Dirty

Yes they can be. If you don’t wash your beard then of course it will be dirty. The same way that if you don’t wash your face it will be dirty! Bit of a stupid statement if you ask me.

Look after your beard the right way and it will always look fresh and clean. Using the right products is also key. Don’t just use hair shampoo, you have to use the right stuff!

You can get Beard Shampoo and conditioner as well as beard oils and much more. I will cover this in a later article.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, if you want to grow a beard then do it. Grow that manly mane and show it off proudly! If anyone tries to make you feel bad about it then you don’t need that negativity. Dispose of it!

That’s me for today, I hope you have a good day and keep on growing!
